Dear student,

It’s important that the University can contact you in the unlikely event of an on-campus emergency. A new system, Sydney Uni Alert, allows us to send an alert to your mobile (cell) phone via text message (SMS) and your University email.

To receive alerts, you must provide us with your Australian mobile phone number.

How to update your details

Please log in to Sydney Student and check that your current Australian mobile phone number is listed. Click ‘My details’ then ‘Address & residency’.

How to get an Australian mobile number

To get an Australian mobile number, you have two options: a prepaid account, or a fixed plan. A prepaid account is a flexible, easy option if you just want a SIM card to use in your existing phone. A fixed plan is a contract that locks in a monthly price and usually includes a handset.  You can find out more information on page 4 of this guide or on this website.

If you don’t want to get an Australian mobile number, you can receive the alerts by downloading the AtHoc app:

1. Download and install the AtHoc app from the Apple App Store or Google Play

2. Open the app and register with your University email address

3. Head to your inbox and verify your email address

4. Enter the organisation code: USYDALERT.

What are the alerts?

Alerts will be only issued to help manage serious on-campus emergencies that require immediate attention or action. The alerts contain clear and critical information to ensure your personal safety in particular situations.
