7 surprise benefits of volunteering
Australians spend a staggering 700 million hours volunteering each year, and new research has found those hours are far from wasted. In honour of National Volunteer Week (which starts today), find out how the act of helping can leave us happier, healthier and more satisfied.
Winner winner, bin-chicken dinner
Like us, ibis aren’t immune to the change in weather and a busy schedule. They too turn to tasty carbs for comfort! New research has found that our urban ibis friends prefer high-carb foods which could provide insight into why they are moving to the city, taking over our campus (and the world).

Revue say you?
Singing, dancing, acting, joking (and a little crudeness thrown in for good measure) – the USYD Revue is possibly the stage’s greatest hybrid show, and it’s returning to the Seymour Centre in May. Like this year’s cheeky title implies (you’ll have to look that up for yourself), it’s going to be bigger and bolder than ever.
Explore Sydney’s VIVID talent
VIVID returns to light up Sydney from 26 May. Don’t miss the chance to check out the work of your peers, with many of our artistic students and staff showcasing their talent throughout the 23-day program.
Give the gift of good grades
Did you know the first modern Mother’s Day was officially celebrated in 1908? In most countries, the holiday is held on the second Sunday in May (we’re talking this Sunday), in case you didn’t realise. But instead of hurrying out to buy your mum some flowers, why not give a gift that really matters – make her proud by scoring a high distinction or two!? That’s the spirit – now back to the books.
