Sydney Uni is going to Mardi Gras and you can join us!
All aboard the University of Sydney’s Mardi Gras float! That’s right – to celebrate and support the LGBTIQ members of our diverse community, we’ll have a float at the Mardi Gras parade on Saturday 5 March. Send us your expression of interest to walk with the float on parade night, and stay tuned for more ways to get involved.

If you'd like to know more about the University's LGBTIQ community initiatives, check out the Ally Network for students and staff.
Setting up for semester
With Semester 1 just two weeks away, it’s time to get organised. Follow our advice to start your studies ready and raring to go.
Sydney gets busy in space
Space is no final frontier for Sydney Uni. Last week PhD student William Reid won an international maths competition for his work on improving algorithms for a planetary rover, while our experts helped a team of Sydney school students pilot robots aboard the International Space Station for the global Zero Gravity competition.

Raising research students' profiles
If you’re a postgraduate research student, you can now create your own profile on the University website. Just like academic staff profiles, this is the perfect way to showcase your talent, build interest in your project and attract collaborators. Find out how to set up your Higher Degree Research (HDR) profile.
Your digital needs sorted
New to Sydney Libraries this year, the Digital Scholarship Studio offers services ranging from data rescue to 3D printing. Make a booking with the team.
Join in and get involved
  • Do you walk to Redfern Station from campus? 'Meet and move' is a project supported by Healthy Sydney University to help students stay active, make friends and travel safely. We’re looking for volunteers to meet students near Fisher Library and lead the convoy to Redfern.

  • Looking for a way to serve your community and get some rewarding work experience? The University’s Compass Program is welcoming new volunteers in 2016. We work with schools and communities to help students from backgrounds under-represented in higher education to be confident about their choices and prepared for their future, post-school. If you’d like to get involved, apply before 9 March.
  • As part of the University’s commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation and cross-cultural dialogue, the faculty of Arts and Social Sciences has just announced a new Indigenous Studies Major. Contact Dr Peter Minter to find out more.

  • Are you a newly enrolled student of Lebanese heritage? The Australian Lebanese Foundation offers a range of first-year undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships to support your studies in 2016. Applications close on 25 March.
  • If you are planning to travel overseas to countries that may be affected by the spread of the Zika virus, we remind you to take precautions. Visit for advice.
