ENQUIRING MINDS
 PRIMARY    |
Enquiring Minds TV series - Surgeons & Bridge Builders
Enquiring Minds is an inspirational new series that aims to help children in primary school turn their passion into a career through higher education. The series, developed as part of the Bridges to Higher Education program of which the University is a proud partner, profiles young students with a passion - animals, robots, computer games, mummies - and links them with a current student and academic in the field who explains how they have turned a similar passion or hobby into a career or focus of their study.
Read more about the program on our website.

Episode Two: Building Bridges Engineer & Specialist Surgeon

How cool is it to build things? Aayush likes to be creative and has even designed an amusement park with an elephant bridge! Presenter Sacha takes Aayush to meet Jennifer MacDonald, a lecturer in the built environment, who explains some of the methods and materials used in building bridges. In the second half of the show, budding surgeon Yang Yang gets to operate on a “live” robotic patient, and perfects her suturing skills under the watchful eye of Prof. John Cartmill, surgeon.

NOTICES & REMINDERS
 PRIMARY, SECONDARY    |
Feedback wanted on national curriculum
The Australian Youth Forum is once again calling for student feedback on the draft Australian curriculum in PDHPE. In 2012 the AYF consulted with young people on an earlier stage of the development of the Health and PE curriculum.  You can check out the 2012 submission via the AYF website.

The AYF is consulting again "because we want young people’s voices to be heard throughout the entire development of the Health and PE curriculum."

"Young people are well placed to identify emerging issues in education and in society.  [They are also] capable of consulting with other young people on issues that are important to them and that impact upon their learning, growth and development."

PDHPE teachers interested in offering their students this opportunity should visit the AYF's discussion board.

Please ask Science, Maths, TAS or any interested teachers to get in touch with Sophie Partridge if they have any ideas or would like to help shape the project to ensure it fits in with either the KLA’s or other school initiatives.
