Welcome back for Term 1, 2013! We hope that you enjoyed a happy summer holiday, and we thank you for your hard work in making 2012 such a successful year for Compass. We've been busy while you were away...but just a couple of announcements for today: - Schools & Communities Team Leader Miriam Pellicano will be away from the Compass office for six months, returning in August 2013. We welcome Sarah Fletcher to step into Miriam's shoes for that time, and Sophie Partridge will continue as the Compass Senior Project Officer. - The Compass team will be contacting schools early next week to schedule our annual Back to School meetings for the middle of February. These meetings are held with coordinators to discuss plans for 2013, in addition we would appreciate the opportunity to talk to all staff at a staff meeting in Term 1. A short presentation at a staff meeting allows the whole school to get an overview and understanding of the different aspects the program entails. Rather than experiencing activities in isolation, this helps teachers to see the bigger picture of what we are all trying to achieve with and for the students. - We're getting a new look! Expect to keep on seeing our iconic yellow, but in a new exciting setting. We hope to unveil our new ‘uniform’ at your staff meeting’s Compass presentation. And yes, this means a new logo for your school's website!

What's being offered in 2013?
You can see the 2013 Professional Learning calendar here to find out what workshops are available for Compass partner schools this year.
Many teachers requested workshops to support the implementation of the Australian curriculum. We are pleased to announce at least 8 sessions, in August-September. So far, sessions for Stage 4 & 5 Science, Mathematics, English, and History are being planned.
The primary school literacy calendar includes the blended module in Children's Literature facilitated by Professor Robyn Ewing, recipient of the 2012 Lady Cutler award for distinguished service to children's literature in NSW.
Please talk to your Compass Coordinator if you would like to register, or contact Victoria Loy at Compass.

On Friday 4 January, 96 of the students who comprise the first cohort of E12 (Early Offer Year 12 scheme) scholarship winners were welcomed to the University an an Information Day. Eleven students from six Compass partner schools were among the excited new undergraduates.
Provost and acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Stephen Garton strongly supports the E12 program. "The core mission of this university is to find the most promising students and bring them together with the best researchers to realise their full potential. Through these means our aim is to harness our most precious resources - our students and staff - for the public good."
