Verge Festival brings student creativity to life

The theme of this year's Verge Festival is ‘unleashed’. The festival held from 9 to 18 October on the Camperdown Campus will host a variety of events focused on showcasing student creativity, including Harry Potter themed activities, Game of Thrones trivia as well as a variety of parties, gigs and theatre events for you to get involved in. New Doctor of Medicine program

The Sydney Medical School has announced a new Doctor of Medicine (MD) program starting in 2014 which will allow postgraduate medical students to enhance their research experience. Find out more

Ride to Uni Day – 16 October

Get on your bike on 16 October and ride to uni. The day aims to promote cycling as a healthy and sustainable mode of transport to and from the University. Students and staff who register for the event are invited to ride to Eastern Avenue between 7am and 10am for a free breakfast.

Participants will also have access to a free bicycle safety check from the University’s Bike Doctor, who is offering 10 percent discount vouchers to registered staff and students. Also make sure you sign up for the 'map your ride to uni' project – see 'Get Involved' below for more detail.

You will soon receive an email on your faculty notice board asking for your input or inviting you to a face-to-face consultation over the next few weeks.

Map your ride to uni

A group of University staff are trying to create a visual story that shows how students and staff are cycling to the University.

Staff and students who ride their bike to uni from 14 to 18 October are invited to record one of their rides using a mapping app, GPS device or mapping website. If you’re interested in taking part, visit the event page for more information and instructions on how to be involved.

Alex and Luke are two of Australia’s top magical entertainers for both children and adults. Their magic act 'Make your parents disappear' will be showing at the Seymour Centre from 25 to 28 September. Suitable for children five and up. Find out more

The 2010 Global Burden of Disease Study shows that back pain has been the leading cause of disability worldwide. Professor Chris Maher from the Sydney Medical School offers some insights into what we are doing wrong and what we should be doing to solve this major health problem.

One of Chile’s leading political scholars, Professor Ana María Stuven, joins Sydney Ideas for a presentation on the changing role of women in the public sphere of her country.
