Welcome to the 2013 Academic Year
I would like to warmly welcome students, both new and returning, to the 2013 academic year.  We invite you to fully engage in campus life, through the various clubs and societies, services and opportunities, of which this new Newsletter will help to make you aware.

The Faculty of Health Sciences has a large network of national and global partnerships, providing students with extensive hands-on training and opportunities. The University has extensive support services ensuring you are prepared with both the academic and practical skills required of your professions.

Health Care Team Challenge
Join a fun and dynamic inter-faculty competition that promotes interprofessional collaboration and client-centred care. The winning team will be eligible to travel to Brisbane for the national team challenge.

This year the Faculty of Health Sciences will host the University of Sydney Health Care Team Challenge (HCTC) in conjunction with The Faculty of Pharmacy, Sydney Medical School and Sydney Nursing School. Students collaborate in multidisciplinary teams of 4-6 to develop an evidence-based health care plan for a case with input from academic mentors.

We are looking for 3rd and 4th year undergraduate and 2nd year GEM students to join teams of students from Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy. Find out more

Prepare now for your clinical placements in NSW Health

Longer Loans and No Fines*
From 7 January 2013, there will be longer loan periods and no fines for the late return of items, which are not required by other borrowers*. Note, however, that there will be increased fines for the non-return of high demand items and lost material. Read more about this Library Announcement

Starting to think about research, writing, citations and references? Now is a great time to plan classes to hone your academic skills. The Library offers classes and self paced online learning modules on library resources like EndNote and databases.

The Learning Centre provides resources for students to build and extend the skills they need for study and research at university. You can join workshops throughout the year on academic writing, research and other skills and are are located on the Camperdown and Cumberland campuses.

Do you want to vary your Units of Study?
Students wishing to withdraw from a unit of study in which they have enrolled and enrol into a new unit of study must do so at Student Central or via MyUni by the end of the second week of first semester, Friday 15 March. Read more about Enrolment Variation

Do you need a student ID card?
Cumberland Campus student can collect ID cards from 9am to 4pm from Monday 4th March to Friday 8th March 2013 only.  Please bring a valid photo ID and present yourself at Student Central.
Do you need a Uniform?
The Faculty of Health Sciences eStore is the place find and purchase the equipment you need to carry out your units of study.
Considering discontinuing? Make sure that it is before the HECS Census Date
The last date to withdraw from a unit of study, apply for suspension or discontinuation without financial and academic penalties is the HECS Census Date, Friday 31st March.
Have you received an Academic Progression Register Notification?
If you did not meet the academic progression requirements of your course in Semester 2 2012, you may have been placed on the academic progression register, to help you Stay on Track.

The Student Academic Progression Policy sets out the principles of this process. In your Stage 1 or Stage 2 notification letter you will have been directed to attend a Staying on Track Information Session. Read more about the Staying on Track.
Your university email is very important
It is University policy that all student communications are made through the University provided student email address.  Check your  University email address regularly, it is the channel that the University uses for delivery of all official communication.  The University will only act on requests sent from your official USyd email address.

The Faculty is aware that there have been long queues for buses in the morning and afternoon. Faculty management have been speaking to the bus company seeking a revised schedule beginning Monday Week 2.

The Faculty is aware that there have been long queues for buses in the morning and afternoon. Faculty management have been speaking to the bus company seeking a revised schedule beginning Monday Week 2.

A revised bus timetable to took effect from 25 February 2013.
The primary bus service to the campus will now be Route M92 Metrobus.
 
The M92 service will continue to operate unchanged (i.e. every 10 minutes in peak hours, every 15 minutes in the off-peak and every 20 minutes at night and on weekends) however the Route 915 shuttle service will be reduced to operate as a limited service in the AM peak only.

Health Science students, who will be Belong@FHS mentors this year, took part in the Amazing Race during O-Week. It was held around the many famous landmarks of the Camperdown campus.
