ARC rules released

The ARC released the funding rules for Discovery, DECRA, Discovery Indigenous 2015 and Australian Laureate Fellowships 2014 this week.

This year, the rules have been released as a single document which applies to all four of the schemes. The ARC has also produced a summary of changes to each set of rules. Visit the ARC website for full funding rules, the summary of changes and ARC instructions to applicants.

Australian Laureate Fellowships
Proposals open in RMS: 13 January 2014
Internal closing date: 10 February 2014
Request not to assess date: 10 February 2014
DEADLINE for ARC submission: 24 February 2014

Survey
NHMRC survey: Ethical Conduct in Human Research
The National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (NHMRC, 2007) is the ethical framework that underpins human research in Australia. The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is currently undertaking a survey that seeks to ascertain whether the statement is effectively serving the needs of the research community.

The survey is open until 7 February 2013.

ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hubs
The second round of the 2013 ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hubs scheme open on 15 January 2014. The ITRH scheme supports collaborative research activity between the Australian higher education sector and industry.

The ARC will only consider applications that directly relate to the priority areas. The priority areas for the second round of Industrial Transformation Research Hubs are:
  • Manufacturing
  • Food and agriculture
  • Oil and gas, including petroleum
  • Mining and mining services
  • Medical devices and biotechnology
Key dates:
Applications open: 15 January 2014
Internal closing: 14 February 2014
Request not to assess: 12 February 2014
External closing: 26 February 2014

Lung Foundation Australia has partnered with Menarini Australia to offer two new grants.
  • COPD Research Top-Up Grant - Up to value of $20,000
  • European Respiratory Society (ERS) Annual Congress Travel Grants - Up to value of $5,000

2014/2015 Medical Devices Fund

The NSW Government has launched the second round of the Medical Devices Fund (MDF) to help encourage and support investment in the development and commercialisation of medical devices and related technologies in NSW. In this round $7.7 million in grant funding is available.

Information sessions will be held in January on three University of Sydney campuses:

Are you intending to apply for an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship (ECF) and Career Development Fellowship (CDF)?

Information sessions will be held in January on three University of Sydney campuses:
The sessions will provide applicants with an understanding of what NHMRC look for in a typical Career Development or Early Career Fellow, how to prepare your application, key contacts for help on strategy and writing your proposal and a step by step guide to the submission process.

The internal closing date for Career Development Fellowships is 3 March 2014 and the internal closing date for Early Career Fellowships is 26 March 2014.
