Defence Trade Control Bill update

SyReNS recipients announced
The recipients of the University's Sydney Research Networks Scheme (SyReNS) have been announced for funding commencing in 2013.
The recipients of the University's Sydney Research Networks Scheme (SyReNS) have been announced for funding commencing in 2013, the second time this award has been offered..

SyReNS provides funding and other support for themed research groups or networks spanning multiple Faculties over a two year period.

"This scheme continues to be one of our most popular," said Jill Trewhella, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), "and it is delivering results as it brings together researchers to work creatively across discipline boundaries, generating new ideas and new ways of solving complex problems."

Researchers submitting applications for NHMRC Development Grants due on 10 July are reminded that draft applications must be submitted by the internal deadline – Monday 1 July – if you want it to be reviewed by a member of the Research Portfolio.

To submit a draft application for review, please generate an Assessor Snapshot in RGMS and email a copy of this report and the Proposed Research PDF to Rebecca Griffin

Please do NOT certify your application until notified by your Research Administration Officer. Guidance for completing your application is available on the NHMRC website.

Judith Jane Mason and Harold Stannett Williams Memorial Foundation
Medical and scientific research grants focusing on the development of more effective diagnoses, treatments or cures for either Alzheimer’s disease or chronic fatigue syndrome, or for therapeutic interventions and care of people with chronic fatigue syndrome.
The Wicking Trust, in association with the Judith Jane Mason and Harold Stannet Williams Foundation, invites applications for its medical and scientific research grants.

Research should focus on the development of more effective diagnoses, treatments or cures for either Alzheimer’s disease or chronic fatigue syndrome, or for therapeutic interventions and care of people with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Projects will be funded for up to one year, although applicants may reapply.

Applications close 01 July 2013.

European Union collaborative research grants
The NHMRC-European Union collaborative research grants enable Australian researchers to participate in multinational collaborative projects with international researchers.
The National Health and Medical Research Council invites applications for its NHMRC-European Union collaborative research grants to enable Australian researchers to participate in multinational collaborative projects with international researchers.

The project collaboration should involve at least two other participants from different EU member states or associated states (as well as an Australian participant).

Individual grants are worth up to AU$200,000 per year over five years. Applications close 5pm, 03 July 2013.

The Cancer Institute NSW invites applications for its Future Research Leader and Career Development fellowships.
The Cancer Institute NSW invites applications for its Future Research Leader and Career Development fellowships.

Future Research Leader fellowships (PDF) aim to encourage high calibre interstate and international emerging researchers to establish a substantial programme of research at a NSW institution.

Career Development fellowships (PDF) are for researchers who have at least five years and no more than 10 years postdoctoral experience and can demonstrate substantial ability and potential as a future cancer research leader.

Applications close 5pm, 5 July 2013.

Do you use, or are planning to use, animals in your research? Register now for the Introduction to Animal Research course being held in August. If you're new to animal research this course is compulsory.
Do you use, or are planning to use, animals in your research? Register now for the Introduction to Animal Research course.

Run twice a year, this course focuses on the ethical and legal aspects of animal research.

This course is compulsory for new animal researchers and is highly recommended for experienced animal researchers who are new to the University. All researchers using, or planning to use animals are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Before you attend the course you must access the Animal Ethics Infolink website and the pre-requisite reading listed on the Animal Ethics website.

The course runs over two days - 1 - 2 August, 2013 at the Nursing Lecture Theatre, Mallett Street Campus.
