Researchers applying for an ARC DP14 are advised to review their cross-scheme eligibility with NHMRC schemes. 

A clarification has been issued for ARC Discovery Project applicants. In reference to clause 9.1.11 of the ARC Funding Rules, if a researcher is not a CI on a Program Grant, Project Grant or Centre of Research Excellence awarded funding (awarded at closing date for DP14, i.e. current) from the National Health and Medical Research Council for 2014 and does not hold any Discovery Projects, they are eligible to apply for two DP14 Proposals as well as submit a NHMRC Project Grant(s).

If all grants are funded from the ARC and NHMRC the researcher is not required to relinquish any Projects in order to meet the requirements under clause 9.1.11 of the DP14 Funding Rules if all applications are successful. 

If a researcher is a Chief Investigator on a Program Grant, Project Grant or Centre of Research Excellence awarded funding (awarded at closing date for DP14, i.e. current) from the National Health and Medical Research Council for 2014 and is a CI on any Discovery Projects awarded funding in 2014, the researcher is not eligible to apply for a DP14 Proposal.

University of Sydney researchers creating a budget for accessing the  Australian Centre for Microscopy & Microanalysis (ACMM) facilities are now advised to include a beam time charge of $65/hr. Include an equivalent amount for the University contribution. This amount factors in an anticipated increase in user charges.

The ACMM, as part of the AMMRF, provides access to an outstanding range of micro- and nano-scale imaging and analysis techniques. Subscriptions to the facility may be purchased at levels ranging from $1200/yr upwards, giving researchers access to the centre's instruments and experts at heavily reduced rates.

Guidelines for the seventh round of the Indo-Australian Science and Technology Fund and the Indo-Australian Biotechnology Fund are now available through the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education website.

These schemes, which form part of the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF), support joint workshops and projects with Indian researchers in priority areas agreed between the two governments.

For this round, applications for workshops and projects are invited in several areas in both the Indo-Australian Science and Technology Fund and Indo-Australian Biotechnology Funds.

Applications for workshops are particularly encouraged and the assessment criteria and process for applying for support for a workshop have been streamlined for this round.

A new online application form and templates for CVs are available on the DIISRTE website. 

If you intend to apply to either fund, please send an email as soon as possible, to Luda Kuchieva to confirm. Luda will then send you a template for the letters of support needed for your application.

The Ramaciotti Foundations invite applications for their biomedical research award. 

This is awarded to a group or individual undertaking biomedical research within universities, public hospitals, medical research institutes or other similar organisations. 

The Ramaciotti Foundation funds projects including personnel, equipment, major infrastructure improvements or new laboratories that help an existing, well-funded programme of research or enable a major new programme to begin.

In 2013, the award, worth AU$1 million, is open to NSW applicants only.

The JCG partnership fund is calling applications from researchers who are interested in Australia-China initiatives on low emissions coal technology.

The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering invites applications from Australian and Chinese researchers from research institutions and industry to apply for funding to contribute towards short-term and long-term exchanges, workshops and symposia, to develop Australia-China collaborations, to build critical mass in low-emission coal collaboration and support the development of enduring partnerships. 

Please note that the the JCG Partnership Fund will only support research activities focusing on technological developments of carbon capture elements – activities on storage are not eligible for funding.

The National Science Foundation in conjunction with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have announced a partnership program that aims to support basic scientific research designed to address key constraints to smallholder agriculture in the developing world.

The program, entitled 'Basic Research to Enable Agricultural Development' or 'BREAD' invites ideas from individuals who are graduate students, postdoctoral associates or faculty at a university, college, or non-profit research organization (including museums, research laboratories, professional societies or similar organizations that are directly associated with educational or research activities) in the U.S. or internationally.

Complete entries should be submitted via the BREAD website or email between April 1 and April 30, 2013.
