Update: Defence Trade Controls Bill
DVC Research, Jill Trewhella has been working with a team of researchers, legal and policy advisers to ensure the University‘s and the higher education sector’s needs were considered by the Senate committee overseeing the Defence Trade Controls Bill.
DVC Research, Jill Trewhella has been working with a team of researchers, legal and policy advisers to ensure the University‘s and the higher education sector’s needs were considered by the Senate committee overseeing the Defence Trade Controls Bill.

National Research Investment Plan released
The National Research Investment Plan was released by the government on 28 November. It will support future decisions by the government in relation to the level and balance of research funding. Read it at the DIISRT website.
Funding priorities for CRC program announced
Minister for Science and Research, Senator Chris Evans, announced funding for the 16th round of the Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) program, which will give preference to collaborative projects in priority areas. Read the media release.
$2 million donation to help build a sustainable future
The University of Sydney has received a generous $2 million gift to establish the Judith and David Coffey Life Lab at the Charles Perkins Centre.

  • Sydney Collaborative Research Equipment Grants scheme
  • Sydney Cancer Research Fund Infrastructure Grants scheme
Applications may be made for equipment purchased in 2012 or planned for 2013.

Parkinson's NSW is calling for applications for:
  • one Bendigo Bank Parkinson's Research Grant up to the value of $50,000
  • for seed grants up to $20,000 each excl. of GST and
  • for biological/non-clinical and clinical/psychosocial research.

Reducing antipsychotic use in residential care
Find out how Dr Clement Loy hopes to understand the gaps between evidence and practice in anti-psychotic drug use in residential care.
Antipsychotics are commonly used for management of behavioral symptoms among people with dementia. While there has been a reduction in antipsychotic use for dementia in the United States, its use has continued to increase in Australian residential care facilities. Find out how Dr Clement Loy hopes to understand the gaps between evidence and practice in anti-psychotic drug use in residential care.
