Why don't modern Western diets work?
Should we eat less or eat better? Can we eat less if we eat better?
Should we eat less or eat better? Can we eat less if we eat better?

Researchers from the School of Biological Sciences are looking for men and women who consider themselves to be 'normal-weight' to participate in a study on the origins of weight gain from modern Western diets. The study is designed to show that the problems in our diets can be overcome by a simple change in what we eat.

To qualify, you should be between 18 and 65, in good general health, and not currently smoking or on medications. Participants will be compensated financially for their time.

For further information please contact one of the study coordinators, Alison Gosby.
Flu vaccine study for older adults
Researchers are investigating if some brief moderate exercise at the time of receiving a flu vaccine can make it more effective.
Researchers are investigating if some brief moderate exercise at the time of receiving a flu vaccine can make it more effective.

Researchers from the Faculty of Heath Sciences are investigating the effects of 30 minutes of exercise immediately before receiving a flu vaccination.

Older adults are at high risk from the flu, and although the vaccine is available it does not always stimulate a strong response. In young adults brief exercise has been found to help the immune response, but now the research team is planning to see if it can work for older adults who would benefit much more from better protection.

The study is being run through the Centre for STRONG Medicine at Balmain Hospital, and the researchers are looking for healthy adults aged over 65. Please contact Liz Mathieson on 9395 2269 or Kate Edwards on 9036 7396 for more information.
